    Actually, get those hard as rock Bazooka bubblegum I chewed as a kid - that lost its flavor in two minutes and became hard in three. Chew a few of those and ball them up together, mass is expected to exceed that of lead for sure!

    So I picked up a "used" Pedersoli "Brown Bess" carbine at a wonderful price. Assured a beautiful patina but the bore was bright (and it is). Sparks well, etc, etc. Just an odd looking phillips head screw for the tang screw...easily replaced with more period specific flat head. My normal way...

    Brown Bess Update/More Questions re cleaning

    Founds this thread and I am a newbie and just acquired a used Brown Bess. The barrel has some light surface rust and so far read the green scotch-bright pad. Any other ideas or thoughts for the outside?

    Source for flat head screws

    Totally restoring an old beat-up Kentucky percussion rifle...my biggest issue on this project is the screws. They were horrendous. Flathead screws with no depth! Took about everything from my gunsmithing screw driver collection and even cutting with a dremel to remove!!, Just a mess all...
