I watched all of it. I liked it a lot. Bummer of an ending though.

Kibler's Hawken Muzzleloader Kit Preview Coming Summer/Fall 2025

Glad this came out now. I am not going to wait. I am going to stick to my original plan and get one from the shop. This will be great for some though.

    GPR half cock

I think it is just rust and some cracking on the finish that they put on that plate. As mentioned, I assembled this like 20 years ago and when I took the lock apart to finish the plate I must have lost the fly. I gave the rifle to my father in-law who had it for the 20 years until he passed and...

    GPR half cock

You guys are awesome. Thanks. I must have lost the fly right off the bat, The gun would hang up on the half cock when fired. I remember removing a lot of material from the tumbler. I then switched to musket caps and never really thought of it until today. I found the original nipple and I have...

    GPR half cock

Top picture is full cock and bottom pic is the half cock. I remember now that when I assembled the rifle 20 years ago it would catch on the half cock when firing, perhaps I removed too much material. Do you think a new tumbler will fix it or should I get a sear also?

    GPR half cock

Yea, it don't look like that.

    GPR half cock

Well I just remembered or discovered one problem. I had been using musket nipples. I put the standard nipple back in and it half cocks. It is really close to the nipple. Is that normal? also the hammer will drop when the trigger is pulled at half cock. It looks like the half cock notch is not...

    GPR half cock

    Kilber Hawken calibers?

.58 for me. But if he takes too many liberties with the design, I'll stay with the Hawken Shop.

Will the bottom fall out of the custom build business?

Regarding the ease of the Kibler kits, I think it has opened up a whole lot more opportunities for less skilled folks out there to get into the sport for less investment or wait. I am not sure how many have been sold, but the majority that I have seen are simply done with no engraving or...

    LH Caywood Fowler 12ga

I've had two Caywoods ( by the way I am not a fan of Caywood's but they fired wonderfully) and sold them both on Track or the Wolf. I was able to drive there and it looks like you are in New York so it would be a cost to send it. Anyway, they priced them well and they sold quickly.

    2023 Wisconsin Bear

I am in Northern Wisconsin and the season will start around the 15th of September. Dogs get to go first this year a week earlier than that. I most likely will just stand hunt but I do have connections to dogs. I might even make myself a 18th century hunting shirt and get in the spirit.

    2023 Wisconsin Bear

I know it's a bit a way yet, but I drew a Wisconsin Bear tag. I am debating whether or not to use my .62 Virginia rifle or my longbow. Last bear I shot was with my longbow and I am really leaning toward the rifle. Can't wait.

    Chambers Virginia Rifle

I posted this over on the French and Indian War Forum but I hope its ok here as well for those that don't frequent that one. I posted a question back in 2005 on possibly purchasing the Mark Silver Virginia kit by Chambers. Well I did. Here is some of the story and pics. Back in 2005 john4645 was...

    Blowing down the barrel

If we forget about range rules or the Commandments - What's unsafe about it? Seriously. I mean you put your hand over an actual loaded gun when ramming.

Went Hunting and Left my .54 loaded for 3 days

I often leave mine loaded for months. I recently had a Hawken loaded for over a year. Even moved from Michigan to Wisconsin with it loaded. Went off just fine. bullseye. Use Mink oil as well for patch lube. I do use musket caps however.
