WANTED Looking for a Bench/Chunk gun (under hammer maybe?)

trying to find a dedicated bench gun for competition, hoping to spend less than 800 it doesn’t need to be pretty just want something to drive tacks. Located in MO obviously I'll pay shipping as I expect it to be l pretty expensive considering the weight of most bench guns. Intend to use it...

Failed attempts at a rubbed back / French grey finish

fresh eyes in the morning gave it one more go super happy with the result. Giving it a coat of renaissance wax and calling it a day. Pictures don’t do it justice. Ultimately I think the key was previously I was heating the barrel to be warm to the touch to ensure the black would penetrate but...

Failed attempts at a rubbed back / French grey finish

I've been trying to finish this fowler barrel and after multiple attempts I'm just not happy with the results. It seems when I rub black the bluing, I keep overshooting the look I want chasing down areas of inconsistency. included pictures of the barrel blued and after my final attempt at...

Lock and barrel finish for fowler?

From reading I think I'll go with the rubbed back and polish the lock, I tend to clean well but at times laziness gets the best of me. biggest concern for me is leaving it the barrel polished and it instantly rusting in the Missouri humidity and it flashing in the sun while trying to shoot.

What's everyone doing for a finish? currently I'm considering bluing a rubbing back with scotch brite to give an aged look. I intend to shoot the gun in matches so I can't really go for the mirror finish, I'd like something that protects without being too out of place. Anyone know what Kibler...

    Smoothbore accuracy….

Better than I can do rifled, with a peep and off a bench. Truly amazing. Something to “aim” for!

    Smoothbore Matches

Gemmer in Missouri shoots smoothbore matches , funny you mention it I order a Fowler with intentions to join the small group that still does. If there’s a need maybe ask the organization you shoot with to start a match that runs concurrent or after the rifled matches.

Got any photos of the business end? I’ve been trying to see how thick at 20ga wall looks at the end. Is that standard walnut? Also when did you place your order? I’m #15461 and hoping my number comes up soon enough!
