    My German Wheellock replica

Hello John, When I first started making a gun I was working for a Birmingham firm of shopfitters in the 1960's, On the way to a job the lorry would sometimes go to a large industrial blacksmiths shop in Digbeth. I followed our driver in and asked the blacksmith if he had any steel pipe with...

    An English Shotgun

Thanks for all the info guys, truth of the matter is that I don't shoot these days and rarely fired it in the past, this and a number of other guns I have displayed here have lain in the loft for decades until I got them down to check them over and show my Grandson. Now they are going back into...

    Ottoman Guns

Silver wire inlay requires undercutting the design so when the soft wire is inserted it's hammered to expand into the cut. Obviously that would not work with inlay such as on yours so it's nailed on. A very nice pistol.

    Ottoman Guns

A well ornamented gun, the silver tracery appears to be partly inlaid but pinned with nails to hold it in place

    An English Shotgun

It's more than 18mm, having just checked I see on a chart that 12 gauge is actually 18.53mm, I've measured it with an imperial calliper and it's exactly 6/8" more like 19mm so must be 12 gauge with a bit of slight wear at the muzzle or it's 11 gauge @ 19.07mm?

    An English Shotgun

Here is a high quality English percussion shotgun. it has a Platinum breach block and Ebony ramrod. It's back lock is engraved with a hunting dog and bears the name Wood Worcester. whether this was the maker or retailer I don't know but I can't find this name listed anywhere. It's 20mm bore...

    An Arab snaphaunce

I just love seeing old photo's like this from a lost world, I notice the one laughing tribesman holding his gun high up on post #23 has what appears to be a stabbing tool on the end of the barrel

nice picture of the tribesmen at the gunmakers shop, however did they manage to reload whilst at full gallop!

    An Arab snaphaunce

A very neat and hard to find pistol, and I see what I presume is the makers name in silver wire on the stock, I can't see clearly but it looks like Arabic inscriptions on both sides of the stock as well so maybe gives more information if it could be read. Does that frizzen spring look like a...

    An Arab snaphaunce

Very nice, and you have the original type accessories to go with it as well, it seems crazy that I fired mine all those years ago, using 1/2" round lead fishing weights .

    My German Wheellock replica

In all my years of working I never made plans or drawings for anything, only photographs and measurements When I worked as an architectural modelmaker I made scale replicas of peoples houses, models for museums and collectors etc all over the world. In 1998 a film crew came to my workshop to...

    An Arab snaphaunce

Hello Rick, thanks for an incredibly detailed description of my gun!, particularly the likelihood of coming from the Taroudant region and the Oued Sous Valley! as you say, the general shape of the stock is identical to Cytens photo, I'm going to add information tags to all these guns before I...

    An Islamic rifled pistol

This is quite an interesting pistol because it has a short (9") 12mm rifled barrel and military style fixed ramrod The Percussion lock is clearly locally made and has a makers name that translates as Abd al-Rahman. I can't make out the signature on the barrel Another peculiarity is the crude...

    An Arab snaphaunce

Here are the three Arabic stamps, I also have interest in ancient Islamic coins so can read bit's and pieces but as the vowels are rarely used you often have to guess what they might be. The stock bears the elongated word Muhammad al ( no vowels just MHMD) محمد but not sure of the final bit...

    An Arab snaphaunce

The butt actually goes under the armpit so they could fire one handed when riding a camel!

    A Turkish pistol?

It's a shooter for sure, the lock is properly made and I have fired it a couple of times, looking on Google I see the built in ramrod is commonly seen on Balkan and similar area pistols and the owner carried a metal ramrod in his belt. I just spotted some of this type on another forum where the...

    A Turkish pistol?

This gun is an attempt to copy a European style flintlock, the barrel has a crude attempt at copying the famous Italian Cominazzo barrel makers signature and fails miserably, note the tang is actually plated with gold! The lock also has a spurious signature. The gun has some nice silver wire...

    An Arab snaphaunce

I note a few of this North African type have been displayed on other threads but here is mine, it stands at exactly 6 feet, the lock, stock and barrel all signed in Arabic. My dad and I fired this gun in the back yard during the 1960's, an old coalhouse door ended up full of lead balls and holes...
