    Have acquired a very nice Southern Mountain percussion, top flat signed "Dorsey Dick 1996" and "#44" on the side flat. Seller thought Dick was a North Carolina builder, but wasn't sure. Beautiful rifle, excellent craftsmanship...would like more information on the builder if possible. Thanks!

    Lubing patching at the muzzle

    Nor do I...my feeling is that one of the patch's duties is to transfer the spin of the rifling to the ball, by gripping the lead with the weave. If you lube the ball side of a patch, (1) what are you trying to acomplish and (2) would that not decrease the ability of the weave to hold the ball...

    Austin & Halleck update

    Received an A&H mountain rifle today, ordered about a week ago by faxing the form from the website. Rifle is pretty much as advertised...wood is very plain, for being called "Fancy", but overall, a fairly authentic looking Hawken-style rifle...at least the equal of the two Lyman GPR's I own...

    Speaking as one who's only built three or four rifles, but who has a machining and welding background..... If one were the slightest bit worried the structural integrity of their breechplug, what would be the pros and cons of cross-drilling through the barrel and plug and pinning the whole...
