Saw an odd smoothbore in a LGS today

I didn't want to show too much interest, makes it harder to negotiate. He's only asking $225 but I'd like to see it closer to $200 cash. I'll be by his way Monday. My first ML was a flint Belgian trade musket I bought at a yard sale in the early 70's for $25. Used it for everything from...

Saw an odd smoothbore in a LGS today

Doing a 'net search I found several references to SPESCO branded percussion revolvers and one picture of a SPESCO musket. However the picture showed a back action lock and this example has a front action lock. The lock might actually be a Tower lock. My suspicion is that whatever Belgian...

Saw an odd smoothbore in a LGS today

At first glance I thought it was a copy of a generic ACW style rifle musket. Top of the barrel was marked SPESCO, Made in Belgium. Had a patch box similar to a 1804 Harpers Ferry, ribs along the trigger guard similar to some European muskets. Lock was marked Tower, 1861. Rear sight was a...

    Pattern 1776 Rifle

I would contact the museum at Colonial Williamsburg and ask who made the P1776 that they have on display. Probably English made but you never know.

WANTED .454 and .530 RB molds

Lee are fine but want at least double cavity, prefer 6 cavity. Someone has to have one they are not using. Thanks.

If you had only two choices.

Whichever one had groves and lands of equal width. Although I know most period barrels were not cut this way. I think there's way more variables in barrel choice than number of grooves.

Lyman GPH, set trigger not working.

THANKS ALL! I downloaded and read the instruction sheet to get an understanding of how these things are supposed to work. Then I disassembled, cleaned and lubed the triggers. After reassembly and some trial and error adjustment the triggers are working. I think the adjustment screw must be short...

Lyman GPH, set trigger not working.

Previously I pulled the trigger and cannot get it to set out of the rifle. I'll pull it again tomorrow and degrease the assembly.

Lyman GPH, set trigger not working.

A few years ago I picked up a used percussion Lyman GPH, LH in 54 caliber. I'm just now getting around to shooting it but I cannot get the set trigger to work. The front trigger will fire the lock but is stiff. The rear trigger will not set the front trigger. I've pulled the triggers from the...

Breaking down a Colt pattern revolver

A magazine, which is now defunct I believe, called CIVIL WAR TIMES had an article on revolver shooting during the ACW. Specifically they compiled filed reports which specifically mention the use of revolvers. One of the interesting things in the article was several field reports mentioned which...

Why are shoulder stocks so popular on the replica 1860 Army and 3rd Model Dragoons?

Among other interesting items the Appomattox Courthouse museum is a Remington revolver with shoulder stock. It's the only stocked Remington I've ever seen and I've been in a LOT of museums.

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

I was in the Army in the 80's and we were still issued an unmentionable pistol designed by John Browning. One year I was assigned Range NCO to the pistol range tasked with qualifying young LTs. We got so fed up with hearing how you cannot hit anything with the issued service pistol that I...

Think I finally made peace with my 60 Army clone.

This spring, in a LGS, I found an ASM steel frame 60 Army Sherriff that looked unfired for less that $200. First time to the range it swallowed a cap and mushroomed the top of the trigger. I tried reshaping the trigger and hammer notches and thought it was fixed. Next range session the trigger...

    Colt 1851 Navy—120 yards?

Hey, If Louis L'Amour could stretch credibility to the breaking point with some of his characters shooting ability so can you. After all, embellishing some of the finer points of a story is in the finest Western story telling tradition.

FOR SALE Relic knives, $25 shipped

I don't know the story behind these so you can make up whatever you like. The one on the right is marked Sheffield. It's a shame about the one on the left because it has a pretty good feel to it in the hand. These would look good in a shadowbox display, maybe with an old trap or other...

    Kibler Fowler Arrived!

Very nice! If they ever get caught up enough to offer a left handed fowler I'll probably place one of the first dozen orders. With CNC programing it should be just a matter of time.

    Wall piece or valuable

It's an English made shotgun with Birmingham proofs. The US Parker Brothers did import damascus barrels but they were Belgian barrels, not English. The English Parker gun company predates the US Parker Brothers by about 100 years. By the proof marks I'm guessing it was made sometime after 1900...
