    Question Regarding Woman Rondy Attire

I think it is great that she wants to join you! Just for historical background: The original rendezvous in the west only saw Native American women attending them, that we can document, other than one instance of two women being at one as they passed though to the coast. They were dressed in...

    Juried Rendezvous

I like "juried" events. I don't like all the modern things in camps, like workboots, foxtails hanging from the back of women's dresses, etc. Years ago I was at an event that had a great woods walk. Except, the shooters were carrying plastic handled brass range rods in "holsters" on the belts...

    Building a Powder Horn

They are cut as slices from a horn, into rings. Then you put them in hot oil to soften them and then put them on a shaping cone. After they cool, you can put the shaping cone on a lather and turn them. When applying them to the horn will will heat them and then slide them on and let them...

Surefire way to drill a horn spout?

Here are some pictures of how I drill the tip with a drill press. I use a 1/8 drill, then 1/4 inch and then a 3/4 inch pen mill to face the tip. Then I drill my final size hole.

Surefire way to drill a horn spout?

Also, I cut the tip so there is only about 1 1/2 inches of solid tip to drill through. This allows me to go straight into the cavity. AND....if you drill through the side you have not ruined your horn. I have a book on all things horn made....I have one for sale on the website...it is a...

Surefire way to drill a horn spout?

I use a drill press. Cut the tip 1 1/2 long. After cutting the tip I square it off on a disc sander. Then using a 1/8 drill bit I hold the tip up to the bit and make sure it is square and going to drill straight into the neck. Then drill again with a 1/4 inch drill. Maybe I need to post a...

    Powder Horn “Sidedness”

Rick, As someone who builds about 500 a year....I can help! Right or left side carry is a matter of choice based on how comfortable you are with either hand. Our forefathers did not carry them for fashion, but function. The referred to their gun, horn, bag and knife as their "hunting tools"...

I have been building them professionally for 10 years now, roughly 600 per year, BUT I am not an expert. Horn building is a journey and not a destination, so I do not...
