    Matchlock pan & cover

I wondered that too. I have a 1/2” ball end mill on order and I’m gonna see what that looks like on a mild steel 3/8” plate. Self teaching this stuff isn’t the easiest way but it’s rather fun trying to sort out all the various issues.

    Matchlock pan & cover

Howdy! How did you make the flash pan depression? Is that drilled out with some sort of rounded drill bit? Was trying to figure this one out on my own but I am just not sure!!

    English lock build

Since my English lock is on hiatus at a gunsmith I decided to switch this to a matchlock. So I have been scratch building this “tricker” lock off some photos of one from the Winchester Collection in Cody WY. I’ve never seen one in person so working out how the tumbler works without binding has...

The Rifle Shoppe interview and tour

I'm fininshing up my snapping matchlock so I decided to place another order for a late english matchlock to put one of those together. So here's how I place an order: Used their order form. Put 3 different locks on there as "or" choices in case one or more were out. Faxed it to them Friday. Jane...

Skill - barrel making - where to learn

Yeah pretty sure I’m not up for a forged barrel. More like barrel drill and lathe/mill work. In the end I’ll prob just continue to buy barrels but I think it would be good to know how to make them. Just hard to find a reference. I did go down the rabbit hole of drill mechanics. Been reading a...

Skill - barrel making - where to learn

Just this - where would one learn to make muzzleloader barrel today? Perhaps not the boring out of solid stock but taking a blank tube or octagon and finishing it (octagon to round, wedding bands etc). I thought about mailing Ed Rayl who is local to me and asking if I could pay him to teach me...

Neat “Moroccan Lock” action - Snaphaunce?

I believe you’re correct! I wish the other 2 pics of the wall rifle came through. It was a doozy!!! I think I’ll try to repost them.

Neat “Moroccan Lock” action - Snaphaunce?

I didn’t see a sliding pan cover but we were moving kinda quickly unfortunately so didn’t get a great look. However when I loo at the pic maybe the pan cover is already slid forward?

Neat “Moroccan Lock” action - Snaphaunce?

Howdy all, This is in the Sevilla arms museum (Spain). One is a “Moroccan” lock which looks a bit like a snaphaunce? Second is a huge wall gun with a Miquelet style lock. I couldn’t get into the Arms museum in Madrid but there are other I’ll see during this trip. Phil

Event question - how many stations for a competition

there are dormitories available for cheap housing and there are also campsites. Its really an excellent (and underutilized) place.

Event question - how many stations for a competition

Elkins, WV. Heres the camp's website. Unfortunately not many good pics but there are some long range opportunities. Previously someone nixed shooting sports due to lead concerns. I not mind mitigating lead - with bullet traps it can be recycled back into more roundballs. I have some ideas on...

Event question - how many stations for a competition

Howdy all, Mods if this is in the wrong section please feel free to move it to the right one. Background - as part of my duties as a member of the county board of education I serve on the board of the local parks and recreation that oversees Camp Pioneer - a large 4H camp. I have notcied that...

Once I got the parts cleaned up it became quite clear how it all goes together! I'll post a pic once I get it assembled.

    Baltic Snaphaunce

Happened to ask a museum curator in Sweden about one of the earliest snaplocks and he sent me this reply which has a link to excellent photos.some “ Good morning, Thank you for your e-mail and questions. The weapon you are searching for is probably inv. no.16317. It can be followed back in...

    Baltic Snaphaunce

So how does this sear work? Does the trigger ride under that spring and press the sear inward?
  17. Philip Chua

    Baltic Snaphaunce

Great pics!! So the seat is similar to the others just set up further back on the lock plate. I really like how that spring on the seat is set up.

    Baltic Snaphaunce

This is a diagram from Bair’s “European and American Arms” which oddly enough I was reading today! The sear has a strange “Z” shape and the transfer bar looks like it projects horizontally as is typical. How pressure on the bar causes the sear at “A” to move back through the plate I’m still not...

    Baltic Snaphaunce

Wow another old post and another mystery!!!! I too would love to see and understand the sear mechanism on this. Perhaps the sear lever remains in the same plane as the trigger and the pivot point is forward. Maybe a bevel on the sear so that rearward pressure on the trigger moves the opposite...
