Issac Haines build question - barrel/lock alignment

I'm definitely getting that impression. Only other builds I've done so far are kits. Won't make that mistake again.

Issac Haines build question - barrel/lock alignment

Makes perfect sense. I did get the lock inlet around the perimeter, but stopped well short of inletting to the final depth. Have since moved on to thinning the tang and then will proceed with inletting the barrel/tang.

Issac Haines build question - barrel/lock alignment

Well guys, thanks so much for the advice. I sat down and had a cup of coffee and came to the conclusion that what I really need to do is completely inlet the lock plate, then I will have a much better guide. It will also support the thin bit of wood that runs between the barrel and the cock...

Issac Haines build question - barrel/lock alignment

Long time ago I picked up a partially inlet Isaac Haines stock as well as the other parts necessary to complete this build. I've made it to the point of installing the breech plug and beginning to inlet the tang. I did have the foresight to mark the bottom of the barrel to show the final depth...

    Touch hole liner conundrum

Well it's all back together and now patch runs all the way to the breech plug perfectly fine. Thanks so much to everyone for their advice on this project!

    Touch hole liner conundrum

That's the plan. Thought about removing what's left of the old one and making a new tenon, but it snapped off so clean I am just going to solder it back on and call it a day.

    Touch hole liner conundrum

Well I just finished pulling the breech plug, not a terrible job at all. The liner is clearly protruding well into the bore as shown in the attached photo. Ran into another problem though... When I removed the barrel from the stock, the tenon second from the breech was laying there in it's...

    Touch hole liner conundrum

If I drop an undersized rod down the barrel, mark and measure that way, it looks the liner is just ahead of the intersection but by no more than 1/8" and possibly less, but I may be incorrect. Not exactly using the most precise measuring method.

    Touch hole liner conundrum

Figured that was most likely the case. Won't really have time to get to it until most likely mid week. I will post the results once finished. Truly appreciate all the help gents.

    Touch hole liner conundrum

Thanks so much for all the replies. I had thought about removing the breech plug as was mentioned, but looking at it from the tang I do not see any breech plug seam, as seen in the photo, but then again the browning may be covering it as well. If I can find the time today I will pull the barrel...

    Hello everyone

Never been much good at introductions, but here goes. Have loved muzzleloading since my father bought me a CVA colonial pistol kit in the late 80s. Looking forward to discussing and learning more.

    Touch hole liner conundrum

So I recently picked up a new to me custom build .36 Northampton county rifle. Based on the condition of the frizzen face and the bore, I'm confident it had never been shot. In two trips to the range it has really proven to be a tack driver, but today while cleaning, my heart really sank. I've...
