Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

Thank you for your lesson and I’m not an all knowing god like some, but the only mistake I see that I made was using pyrodex instead of black powder. I don’t think there’s much else of a mistake to learn from here friend

Big dog, again I’m not trying to be an rude but I have tried all of that, the grease goes around it and so does the air. The grease broke my original grease gun so I bought another and it just went around the ball and out the end

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

The bullet hasn’t moved, the skirt shouldn’t and isn’t formed to the rifling. Pretty sure these rifles are .5801 at the crown of the muzzle

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

So it easily dropped down the barrel because .575, then I normally tapped it with the rim to tap it in, then after each misfire I made sure it didn’t move. I would say I beat it in just seated it like you would normally do a minie. There was 100% powder under the ball but that is long dead or...

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

I’m really not trying to be rude but Doc, I’ve tried all that. The powder won’t remove it. The grease killed any pyrodex in it, with the water and oil killing it even more. The wall of the minie skirt isn’t up against the barrel and lets powder, water, air and grease around it so combustion and...

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

I used 60gr pyrodex because that’s what the shop told me to use. Well NOW I know it’s not always the same. My first shot of my first BP rifle didn’t fire. So a guy at the range has 3fff that got it out I then tried it again but wouldn’t fire, and he had left. I tried 4fff I ordered but it wont...

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

I have a 1861 Springfield that has an exceptionally stuck minie ball. Like it’s bad. I tried blasting it out atleast 10 times it hasn’t moved. I tried the grease gun but the grease went around the minie so that didn’t work. I broke two ball pullers of on the ball, JB welded the last puller into...

    1861 Springfield Barrel Patina issues

I used an undersized mine and it’s completely fuckered. I’m going to have to send it to a gunsmith like Lodgewood or find someone local to get the breech plug off

    1861 Springfield Barrel Patina issues

I’m using .575 minies and have one stuck right now. The pyrodex didn’t have the juice to form it and sling itz nothing about this gun is blued. Maybe it was left in the white if it was a cadet rifle to be more of a parade rifle and range rifle but there’s nothing blues as is right now, before...

Does anyone have an idea on value? I haven’t been able to find any comparables. The stock has a nice Whitney arms cartouche that I don’t know if original or not

    1861 Springfield Barrel Patina issues

I really hate that I changed it. Forgive me cause I’m new but what is Defarb? I’ve never really seen anything close to this except a listing saying it’s an artillery rifle(?). But the dawn dish soap I had it in to get to the pyrodex just melted it and now it’s uneven and bothers me. Need...

    1861 Springfield Barrel Patina issues

Hi all, new to the forum, I recently bought my first BP rifle, an original 1861 Springfield artillery rifle. I shot pyrodex in it and had a stuck ball. So to help lodge it lose I soaked it in lightly soapy water to help break it free. Couple hours later I return and my original patina is removed...
