Too many options for rifle build

My last build was started with a block of wood. (See pic below) Now I built (for the first time) a half stock, but frankly, it's no more difficult to build a full stock. This build was for a small frame person (kid or small female) so my objective was cheap, low recoil .45 cal, not a cookie...

    Carrying a pistol

I had a similar incident happen to me during archery season. This was a pit bull. I was surprised to see anyone's pet (he had a collar) where I hunt as it's fairly remote. I carry a S&W 357, 7-shot AirLite in a holster. The AirLite weighs only 18oz empty so it's really not noticeable. That was...

Hunting with Wheel locks and Match Locks in PA

Hey.....your darn good!! Can you lobby for the use of a flintlock pistol in the Special Regulation Areas? To me it seems sort of nutz that I'm permitted to use a flintlock long rifle in the SRA but a pistol....which doesn't shoot as fast or as far...is not permitted in the SRA. And if you...

    Hunting with Lyman Plains Pistol

When Pennsylvania permitted the use of flintlock pistols for hunting many years ago, I built a .50 caliber pistol and used a 12" DeHass pistol barrel. Shooting a Pa Conical over 50gr FF the velocity over my chronograph was (is) 939fps. At 30 yards it's 882fps. I've taken it out but never had a...

Ream out to a smooth bore? Pistol

WOW!! Nothing like experience and the "what do I have to lose" thinking that has some surprising outcomes at times!! Just the kind of information I'm looking for!! Of course, if the 45 cal shoots with accuracy I'll be just as happy. I figure with such a short barrel and long rifle twist, it's...

Ream out to a smooth bore? Pistol

This winter's project I'm going to build a flintlock pistol. I have a 12" piece of GM 45 caliber rifle barrel that was left over from a rifle build. The ROT on the 45 cal is 1-60 so it's not the best for use in a pistol. I've been told that I just have to shoot it to see how accurate it is (once...

FOR SALE Green Mountain .45 cal unfinished kit

Hard to tell from the angle of the pic. I'm guessing it's 13" from the front trigger to the middle of the buttplate.

FOR SALE Green Mountain .45 cal unfinished kit

Just a few comments on the unfinished rifle. The lock and trigger guard are Thompson Center. The stock is a full length aftermarket stock for the T\C. The barrel is Green MT (I own 3 GM's and they are all excellent shooters. Much better than a T\C IMHO) Look's like most of the work has been...

    Carrying a pistol

Carry one (in PA) if you have a Concealed carry permit, a sportsman's permit, or if you simply open carry. Pa is an open carry state. But if you're carrying a side arm and your heavy winter coat covers it up....that's concealed carry. It's very easy to get a CCP. Just go to your local Sheriff...

    Carrying a pistol

I'm also from PA. You can carry a handgun for personal protection provided you have a CCP. You cannot use that handgun (pistol or revolver) to dispatch a deer during flintlock season. A 45 caliber flintlock pistol is not permitted to be used for deer. The minimum flintlock pistol caliber for...

    Let's Talk Tuning

I recently finished a build using the L&R Manton lock. When I received the lock I disassembled it and began the routine task of polishing the lock plate, hammer, etc. Then I noticed the lock vs the frizzen was out of alignment, as the pic below shows. I sent the lock back to L&R and the turn...

Whats your favorite muzzleloader you own?

My Favorite rifle I built in 2018. Leman in .54 caliber. Favorite pistol that I built in 2010....then re-did in 2019. Only my favorite pistol as it's the only one I have.

    T/C stock refinish question

I've reshaped and replaced a lot on my T\C. GM barrel, triggers and trigger guard. But to remove the old finish I just sanded it off. Wasn't all that difficult. After I got the shape where I wanted it I applied a sealer, then several coats of Tru Oil. I think maybe 3 coats did it.
