    1860 Pietta Army help

There is a legend that Pietta has a 2000lb gorilla at their factory that they’ve trained to drive those wedges into their colts. The “Pietta Gorilla” strikes again! Seriously, though… Track of the Wolf and others sell brass wedge punches that make removing wedges much easier and won’t damage...

    Jute Tow

Has anyone waxed their tow for cushion/overwad or done something else to it to decrease the chance of throwing embers during drought/fireban weather? I’ve never shot with tow, but I’d like change that. I’ve also never started a wildfire, and I’d like to keep *that* the same. Any tips...

    Flint Knapping Books

Any good books you recommend on finding and knapping flint - not just for flintlocks, but obviously that is also desirable.

    What Remington 1858 to Buy?

I have a [REDACTED] 1858 with two spare cylinders. The gunsmiths at The Muzzleloader Shop in Berryville, AR milled a swaging bevel into each cylinder’s mouth, loading cone, did some hammer work, and I forget what else. It is an absolute gem to shoot. Whichever brand you buy, a good tuning by an...

    Managing Wildlife

Many years ago, I did not hunt. I didn’t oppose hunting, but didn’t want to kill and/or eat animals. A friend was a PhD in Wildlife Management and gave me a short lesson, which I will share here because it changed my views on hunting and I have repeated it often to hopefully change other minds...

    lubing patches

I have never used lanolin. My daughter used a tiny bit of pure lanolin in her homemade balm and that stuff stinks to high heaven! I wouldn’t use it for anything if given an alternative. My two cents. On the other hand… if I carried some up north to prevent chapping in the cold (nothing works...

    New Arkansas Reg: “Alternative weapons”

I was polled on the change and vehemently opposed it, arguing that enforcement would be impossible (wardens can’t run down every modern shot they hear) and that if it were approved, sidelock muzzleloaders should be allowed to hunt during bow season OR a dedicated Pennsylvania-style...

    lubing patches

I also precut strips, but have been lubing the cutting end while shooting or as needed. I clean my firearms with that mix, so I will try prelubing a strip and drying it like you suggest. Thanks for the suggestion!

    lubing patches

I only lube barrel side (while loading).

    Vest pocket pistol

I have a .31 colt pocket revolver. The old .31s generally take .323-.330(#00 buck single pellet) soft lead ball with no patch. I load .323 swaged RB in my .31 revolver over 10-12 grains of 3F Goex.

    lubing patches

I use 50/50 beeswax/tallow. In colder climates, you can go lighter on the beeswax. Never had any issue with powder, even when I goop up a patch more than intended.

    Arkansas

New member here. I have been reading threads for some time and finally decided to join the conversations. I have been shooting caplock rifles and pistols for a few years, and I load BP cartridges for my early carbines and SA revolvers. I am just starting to get into flintlock and single shot...
