How do I remove inner horn core?

sometimes horns, especially real old horns will, will have shrunk around the core at the base..drop back about 1/2 inch or so[that real rough section] and cut, just the horn, not the core, all the way around and then try the boiling method..should work..

    Scrimshaw help

If you don't have any 'china white',draw your design on the horn and then spray on a coat of hair spray..comes off with 0000 steel wool..sometimes a horn is hard to write on ,due to a too 'slick' finish,..get a 'stebrow'[sp] pencil from an art supply house..this pencil will write on slick...

    Horn know how wanted

if you want to clean the insides, just prop the horn up and fill with clorox[no off brands...]..the clorox will desolve all the crud and scale in about 1/2 hour..don't forget it and leave it over night..may eat a hole thru the horn...easiest way to get the inside 'squeeky' clean mike small
