I really like my Northstar West trade musket, but I'd also agree with Hortonl that the new Kibler kit is better looking. It most likely has a much better lock as well.

Want a good vise? Be careful buying this one

I have one of those, I mainly use it with the Brownells urethane jaw pads and it works well. But I agree, if you need to really pull on it, it will spin way too easily.

    1861 Parker Hale musketoon

I have tried Burton bullets, Moose Wilkinson compression bullets, and NOE Pritchett bullets in mine. The NOE ones shot the best, I didn't try to work up a target load just used a normal service charge of about 65 grains. It works reasonably well, usually will group into 3-4 MOA. I still haven't...

removing barrel from H&A under hammer help,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

As mentioned, it's a tapered pin. Once it moves it should fall out. I just rebuilt one of those rifles, and threaded the receiver and made a new breechplug. It works much better now.

    tung oil

We probably don't have 1850 in the US. The only pure tung oil I've been able to find is Sunderland and Wells. So far it stays clear, but I've only been using it for about a year. I really like it over the many other products I've tried that claimed to be tung oil.

Paper patch roundball in a civil war musket?

    Somewhere around 80 works well.

Great Plains Rifle Gatorade Shooting Fest!

I watched that today. I was going to say that getting shot is the best use for Gatorade but it looks like it got drunk first. The advertisement for flints was pretty funny! Good way to make the save! Keep it up, you're one of my favorite channels.

    TC New Englander question

Works great for me. It hits right where it's pointed, looking down the barrel.

    Long range flintlock

I don't think a 1:45 would stabilize a 500gr bullet. You need more like 1:20 like a Trapdoor. But that aside, long range is a relative thing and probably not very relevant in a survival situation. And a ball gun would give you about three times the shots for the same amount of lead.

    Hoyt barrels

I just had him do one for me, a 58 to 62 to fix the pitted bore. He told me to be patient, it would be a while before he could get to it. It came back in less than a week and looks great. Funny man.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Spent the morning with files and inletting black fitting a buttplate to my underhammer project. Can't leave it with that cheesy plastic one it came with.

    Jojoba Oil Lube

I like to use it as patch lube when hunting, when I don't want to use spit. It also seems helpful for lubing paper patched bullets just before firing. It is actually a very light wax and will solidify at about 40 degrees or so.

Interesting Take on the "Correctness" of "Sheriff" Model C&B Revolvers

Yes, I have one. It's not a Ruger though. Old Army reliability in a pocket size revolver with that Remington pattern would be nice.

    1863 Farmingdale Sharps leaning

That is very interesting. I have only ever shot bullets in mine, so I have questions. What size balls? .540" I assume. Any lube? How much powder? A whole bunch would fit behind a ball. Do you use any inert filler? Wads? Or just leave air space in the chamber? That looks like a fun reason to...

    bum steer

Wholesale Hunter is well known for selling guns they don't actually have. That works when they can easily get them in, but if not you end up with a big delay. You'll eventually get your revolver but it may take a while.
