    Reboring a rusty barrel

I found that one should follow Joe's instructions to the letter when coning a barrel, I did at first and actually had better accuracy out of my coned barrel. I decided to go further to the point that I could cut a patch with a thumb started ball, my accuracy went to pot and the ball doesn't...

Thompson Center 50 Cal New Englander- I just bought it and don’t know much- need load info shooting 4F Swiss.

Most of us make patches from pillow ticking from the fabric store, you can buy precut patches in various thicknesses from Track of the Wolf. You need a few other things if you don't have them; there are a lot of patch lubes you can use, some like spit, some like tallow of various kinds, I use...

    Breech plug removal question.

There are always nay sayers; let's see, 40 years of putting the anti-seize on lug nuts, no failures, no stuck lug nuts either, I did my own auto mechanician most of my life, I did a brake job on my girlfriend's truck a few months ago and found that a 77-year-old guy suffers from getting under a...

WANTED Thompson Center Renegade 50 cal with fast twist barrel

All the stock TC Renegades have a 1 in 48 barrel, anything else would be an aftermarket drop in barrel or from the TC custom shop. The Gun Works will make you any drop in barrel you want ($450), so will Rice ($550), but you will end up with way more in the rifle than it is worth.

    Breech plug removal question.

A neighbor called me over one day to help him with a non-functioning garage door opener, I had installed several of these type units and could tell right off that the travel limits were out of adjustment. I asked him for a slotted screwdriver so I could adjust the limits, he replied," Hoss, if...

    Breech plug removal question.

Every now and then I see a gun posted for sale that has obvious pipe wrench jaw marks at the breech, it is usually a TC. When I see this, I wonder what kind of nincompoop would put an unpadded pipe wrench on a barrel to pull the breech plug.

    Sitting Fox fails to deliver

Every historically correct kit on the market except a Kibler requires the skills you claim you don't have, so it would be best for you to buy a Kibler fowler kit or a gun that is already finished. I have bought several unfinished kits that others bought and found out they didn't have the skills...

    Breech plug removal question.

I wouldn't pull it after only 3 years, no need to. I do like to put breech plugs in with high temp anti-seize lube on the threads, there is not a chance of any corrosion after this treatment. I use the same anti-seize on my tractor turnbuckles, after years of use none of it has ever washed off...

Welcome from St Florian, pretty close by. Are you a gun builder?

    54 problems

I had an un-shot TC Tree Hawk that I bought at a flea market for $90 that shot high like that but grouped well, I ordered a taller sight for it from Midway USA and brough it back into line, the TALL sight looked odd but gave me a full adjustment range on the rear sight.

Where do you get scale blueprints for rifles?

Here is the Bess, I couldn't find the Baker plans. I have used these plans for other rifles and a fowler, they are not exact but good enough to make a rifle from. https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/327/1/plan-bess-1730 I am making a cardboard pattern to cut out my fowler...

Anyone ever hunt with a handgonne?

If I can ever get motivated and finish this pistol, I will use it for hunting deer at close range. I would never take a shot at a deer with it unsupported, I am a lousy off hand shot. TN bear pistol with a 15" barrel in .54. I have a Kibler round face lock for it. I have hit some health...

    Other than Hoyt......

I concur with some of the above posters, I was wondering if anybody else was doing the work as well.

    First Time Buyer Advice

First you need to find out what your rifle likes, it may like .490 balls or it may like .495, I like a .490 with a thicker patch, as for patching mine likes either .015 or .018, I like cotton pocket drill material from Joann's which is .018. You can shoot either 2F or 3F black powder in your...

    Tennessee ML Season Opener

I am taking down the electric fence around my food plot today, this is much later than usual, it only takes the deer a day or two to realize that the fence is down and off, they flood the plot when they figure this out. I still have a god bit of deer meat in the freezer so I will probably...

    Nipple Repairs

I got a gun the other day that had the nipple drilled out quite a bit, my take is a little drilling is OK, if the blowback cocks your hammer, it is definitely time for a new nipple. I was shooting light charges in the gun but changed the nipple out with a new one anyway.

    New TC Hawken sights

I paint the rear facing blade of my front sight white when I am hunting in the evening, I can see it way past legal shooting light. I black out my sight if I am hunting in the morning, I can't see the white front sight or a polished brass front in the sunlight.

    Renegade Round Ball question.

I have 3 .54s but they have round ball twist barrels, they all like 80-85 gr of 2F and a .530 ball in a pocket drill patch. Not the same barrel as you have but it might be a starting point to try. I thought the Green Mountain drop in barrel on my TC was a 1 in 48 barrel but I checked and found...

Appropriate carving for a Woodsrunner era Kibler kit?

You will do just fine KH because you have a solid game plan.
