    Replacement sights For Traditions

Thanks for the replies fellas'. If they were dovetail sights I think I could figure something out. Not quite that easy. The sights bolt on. They fit the octagonal barrel and are held on with what appears to be #8 or 10 screws. I called Deer Creek Products yesterday and the owner there told...

    Replacement sights For Traditions

Does anybody know if replacement (iron) sights are available for the Traditions Deer Hunter. I never really liked the optic sights, and found out how fragile they are today. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

First time out with new .32 Deerhunter

UPDATE: 20 grains of fff seems to be the magic number. Dropping the charge changed everything. .017 spit patch with ticking cut at the barrel works great now. With one fouling shot I can be right in the bull at 25 yards, and touch the original hole as long as I want to shoot. It will start...

    GM .54cal 1:70 twist?

Highly recommended. I have one and I've retired the original barrel. Dave

First time out with new .32 Deerhunter

Well.....I finally had time to spend a couple of hours with it last night. I'm shooting 3/4" groups at 25 yards with 30g of fffg, .315 balls, and .015 Traditions Wonderlube patches. My goal for today is to find a ticking patch and lube combo that I can use. 6 cents a piece for patches wont...

First time out with new .32 Deerhunter

I've been wanting a small caliber shooter for a long time. Finally broke down and bought the Traditions Deerhunter 32. If you would please....how about some pointers on working up a load? I've got .310 balls, .018 ticking patch material pre-lubed with everything from Moose Milk to Bore Butter...

    T/C White Mountain Carbine

I had one a few years ago that I picked up at a gun show. My first ML as a matter of fact. It was a fast twist and wouldnt shoot a round ball worth a darn. Oh yeah...it had a crack in the stock at the same place. Dave

GM Barrel Update - Sight question

Man that's a good idea. Wish I'd have thought of it. I'll give it a try. Thanks, Dave

GM Barrel Update - Sight question

I posted a couple of weeks ago that I got a new Green Mountain roundball barrel. After a day at the range, I think it's going to work out. After only setting in the sights, I've got a 2-1/2 inch group at 75 yards, and all shots within 6" at 100. That is without even working up the best load...

    New Barrel break-in/Load question

Thanks for the replies guys. The Brown Truck just brought it today. I did run some steel wool through it a couple of times. Thought about loading and pulling a patched ball to look at the patch, but I think I'll just wait for the weekend and go shoot it. I'll let you know how it went...

    New Barrel break-in/Load question

I was recently invited to go on a boar hunt, and that was all it took to get me to pull the trigger on a new Green Mountain barrel. I got a .54 cal, 1-70" twist drop in for my Renegade. My hunt will be end of October and I want to get the barrel at least mostly broken in by then. I'll...

    Percussion Caps?

I'm pretty sure I still have all of my digits and limbs because I didn't have access to explosives or propellants. 30 odd years later, I still cringe and thank God that a water pistol will come apart at the seams if you try to put gasoline in it. Either the guy who designed that glue...

    Percussion Caps?

I remember something like the cap rockets. I had to make my own out of two 7/16" bolts, with just a couple of threads of each screwed into a single nut. Put a paper cap in between 'em, and it's a poor kids cap rocket. :o Dave

    New Mission.....find slow twist .32 or .36

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm hitting the gun show tomorrow to see if I find anything interesting. If not, looks like I'll be ordering a Crockett. Thanks again. Dave

    New Mission.....find slow twist .32 or .36

Okay....I've got a new itch. I have to have a small caliber rifle. Percussion or flint, and because I'm sure that all I will shoot is PRB, I want a slow twist barrel. All I can find is 1-48". Does anybody make a production 1-66" or 70". Or am I too worried about the twist rate? Is a medium...

    Uberti 1851 revolver questions

You had it nailed Bob. The spring didn't seem to be applying much pressure. I took the thing out and tried to flex it a little, and it just broke in two. I just need to find a replacement and I think it'll be okay. Thanks to all. Dave

    Uberti 1851 revolver questions

A co-worker gave me this revolver to check out and buy if I want it. The frame looks to be very tight and the gun is in good condition. What worries me is that when the hameer is cocked, the cylinder chamber doesn't line up with the barrel, and it doesn't lock in place. Doesn't seem right to...

Lost my first BP deer today

I'm probably telling you guys something you already know, but here is something I never thought of until an old bow hunter told me. Something that requires alot of patience, but makes sence and does work. After you make the shot, and your certain it was a good one, just make note of where the...
