    Epoxy base plugs

What I used to use in a hollow based mini was Bondo body filler. Sets up fast and hard. Likely cheaper too. I use that in a TC 45.

    What the heck, rust?

I shoot Pyrodex and have no rust problems at all. Use home made corrosive caps too. I usually clean the same day using room temp water and window cleaner. Dry well and slop in Ballistal. The cap spray does go all around the breach ,lockplate and hammer and need cleaning off or bad things happen.

    1858 loading lever catch

Brownells has a solder called Force 44. It's 96% tin and 4% silver .It melts at just under 500F. It's strong at 15,00 to 26,00 .Three times better than Staybrite.. It' absolutely needs the proper flux that they also sell. Anything else will boil off before the parts get hot enough. Any tourch...

Anybody here ever heard the term 'rip-off Britain'?

TFoley Is it not ok to make your own caps? There are many ways to make the cups. Often very cheaply too. Could it be the priming is the problem? Is it against the law there? It really sucks to be at the mercy of someones opinion if they want to control you. The laws on gun ownership and...

    CVA squirrel rifle

I checked my Squirrel Rifle 36 cal. It is 25 inches long. It measures .883 across the flats and has the hooked breach. It is a little bigger than my 32 Squirrel Rifle in every way.

    "Arizona" and "Open Range" DVD's

In Arizona you also see a Colt revolving rifle and a Starr revolver. One early 44 Henry rifle and breech loading percussion Sharps rifles. For all that there was little fighting in the movie.

Rifle with nipple changed to small pistol primer, inline type?

The nipple replacement that used a small pistol primer has been made for a ling time now. I see some mention of them going back to 2004. Seems to be called Accra Shot. Everybody who used them soon quit using them.Very difficult to keep working it seems. It seems to be nearly a dead end.

    Ignition Woes

You should not have this problem. I have many CVA rifles and shoot them regular. Almost always with pyrodex and can shoot a whole match without any failures . With GOEX bp I have to clean out the drum after five to six shots. Yes , I use the clean-out screw or I would have to pull out the nipple...

    TAP-O-CAP

Looks like you are on the way to always have caps and eventually save some money at the same time. They can be powerful and will set off any of the subs..You may find that you can cut down the power and make the priming last for more caps. You don't need much for the revolvers.

    TAP-O-CAP

Did you prime them with the Prim-ALL?If so it will work well. Most of us do use a separate binder to keep the priming in the cups. Some will also use double pop can to make the cups with. A LOT has been said about this in the last few years.

    New home made caps

Ok I'll bite. What makes the plastic cap rubberized and how is it home made. They look like the toy caps that anyone can buy. I have tried them with very poor results. I make my caps and they now work very well.

    CVA Kentucky

You could just use spitfire nipples and you already get the bigger holes. They work really well for Pyrodex and 777. Last a long time too for me anyway. I never get a hammer blowback. I shoot all CVA rifles in matches ,26 or more shots with no failures to fire and I don't have to clean between...

    Availability of Percussion Caps

Some are using K&S Copper or soft brass 36 gauge ,005 . They are in roles of 10" x 30". Enough to make 1200 cups depending on you. When I'm using them I lube the sheet with paste wax or it sticks. I do like double wall pop cans as that works best.

    Availability of Percussion Caps

Rhugg01 I have been using my own caps for years now. The prime I'm using is the same as the 22 reloader prime-all. I have to say that it works as well or better than any caps you can buy. They are all I use for Pyrodex and 777. Yes there is a cleanup to be done after shooting. It all comes off...

    Breech Plugs

Mr Austin I have removed two breech plugs from from rifles that are plainly investarms. Even though made many years apart they are the same . Both removed Very easy. I think the one on the GPR could have almost unscrewed with hand pressure. Do you need a breech plug? It came off a 50 cal and...

Possible new option for a cap making tool!

bpalbee Are you using a binder for your caps? Some of the binders we use could provide weatherproofing . I use a fast pistol powder (700X)in acetone. Many use Duco Cement. Some have used Finger nail polish thinned in acetone. These are good effective binders that really hold the prime together.

    I Found Caps!!

Ah yes I shot hundreds of them in the mid 70s. Powerful and corrosive as all heck. Often would almost weld to the nipples and need pliers to remove.Good times. Now I know better how to clean for corrosion. My own caps are as corrosive. No problems anymore .

Possible new option for a cap making tool!

Pat My own experience with hell for stout material for percussion caps didn't work so well. .008 will work better and be easier to adjust the dies to. What happens with a too stout cup is, the cup can not expand and becomes a piston . A normal rifle target load would set the hammer back and...

    A question about pyrodex

I use Pyrodex in my matches. Shoots good enough to win targets sometimes. No problems at all with corrosion. No burnt patches ,could use them again. Ignition is perfect when using my home made caps from the 22 reloader powders. I shoot the whole match without swabbing with no problems. I score...
