Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
Have a line on a Pedersoli 10-gauge percussion side by side. Anyone have any advice about good loads to try, preferred wad sizes, etc? First goal is to work up a turkey load.
Thanks gang.
Try about 90 grains of FFg/1-1/4oz. of chilled shot. Standard over-powder, over-shot and cushion wad were used in a Armsport double 10. this was a load for pheasant using 7-1/2 Lawrence Brand shot. Turkey will need at least 6's, 5's are even better. My favorite is a mix of #5 and #3 shot...yes, I'm an odd size guy. Might try upping the shot to 1-1/2oz. In some guns a bit more shot than powder, BY VOLUME, gives tighter patterns. :imo:
Wes: Thanks for the thoughts. That looks like a good place to start. I think I will start out with the conventional over-powder, cushion and over-shot wads rather than go with the Wonderwads. The latter are easier to use, but in other muzzleloading shotguns I have never gotten very good patterns with just the Wonderwads.
So you like 5s and 3s mixed? I have heard of others who like 4s and 6s.
