Just finished my 12 bore 44" Getz barrel.grade 4 curly maple stock, home made brass sheet butplate,3 ribbed pipes, brass accorn english type trigger guard, turtle frontsite,L-R tradegun lock ,unbridled frizzen, this lock looks early english. L-R curled trigger and plate. Shes a big 12 bore. Can,t wait to shoot it with shot and ball. I like the 12 bore for turkey over the 20 bore. I had a 11 bore Colonail type fowler with a gueenanne L-r lock in maple ,but the barrel was made out of Hydralic high preesure tubing and there was a seam in it. It was safe and proofed at a triple charge. It shot ball into a 6" circle at 50 yards and shot pattern was very good at 11/2oz.

Sounds like a proud builder and a job well done... :applause:

Do you have a picture of it to show everyone?

Done, and I will post those pictures for you so everyone can see your fine work... :applause:

Went to range today for a quick 7 shots at 25 yds off the bench. First time fired. Powder fffg volume set at 1 1/4 oz. for .690 ball and fiberwad over powder then patched ball on top. All hit typesheet size paper target and sweated on turtlesite is close! Will have to fine tune her,but on the paper first time is great. The shot load was 13/8oz. copper 7.5, 4 thin over shot cards over powder and 1 over shot to hold them in. 13/8oz. volume of fffg to get things down there. The turkey head target was peppered good and he was very dead. The getz 44"12ga. barrel is true and the L-R trade lock fast and trouble free. The wide butt felt good and recoil was nice. The trigger pull crisp and predictable, not heavey, but just right. Next time alot more shooting!!!

Thanks again Musketman for your expertise on the Computer wizard works and your expertise in the art of muskets and there workings. We will talk again my musket brother.

Nice to see steel screws on the butt and tang, Fowler. Very nice piece indeed.
: A charge of 2F or SingleF with that 1 3/8ounce shot dispenser might pattern a bit tighter as well. 3F is prone to throwing larger patterns than 2F due to pressure differences. As well, an ounce and one egtth measure of 2F with 1 3/8ouces measure of shot will also pattern better, generally.

I like the early old fasion roundheads they were used in days of old and were liked for there big working roundhead. And yes I have ffg and will try it on the pattern board as you say the slower pressure and not as fast spike of the fffg will be a softer push down the tube. I will try it soon. Thanks agian for your kind comments and no sir this time!!

Forgot to say will fire blue screws, the one in the tang is already. I heat them up cherry red then dip them in brake fluid to cool.

Yes -again, very nice. Fire blue is quite a brilliant finish, but will wear easily, unfortunately. The tang screw should stay that way for some time and the side-plate screws, if not carried in a leather, unlined scabbord, should remain as well, for some time. Unfortunately, the Butt plate screws get worn form our coat and probably would just as well remain bright steel. Of course, the slots will retain colour.

I fireblue by clamping the screw in a vise, head up, and heat to red with a torch then brush vigorously with a wire brush as it cools. When it's gets to 300-400 degrees, drop in WD40 then fish out. The scrubbing makes the blue tougher. I also fireblue ornamental stuff and coat with urethane, which also makes the finish last longer.

I can't tell how you have it set up from the pictures Fowler. Is this a 12 bore trade gun with the trigger guard from a musket or fowler? How did you do the nose treatment?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Was going to use brassheet and cut triggerguard home made, but just used surface mounted store cast English brass acorn finail. The sheet I made the buttplate out of was .085 and I did not think it was thick enough for the triggerguard. But I still may find some thicker sheet and make a homemade and change it. The side plate I have not made so there is only one lock bolt for now. The nose has no cap and is like a Tulle shape or longrifle with out nose cap. If brother Musketman would not mind I'll take pics of the forend forward and thimbles, turtle frontsite and nose area.My little 35mm finds the Fowler way to big for one photo.

Again, no problem, I will be happy to help any fellow member...

Why I would even shoot it for you, I'll even use my own powder...
