This is a 12 gauge singe barrel smoothbore. The barrel is in very nice condition as you can see. Approx. measurements are: OAL- 41.25”, Barrel - 25.75”, LOP - 14.25”. Seems almost canoe gun esque in size. The lock has half cock as well as full. nice fit up between the frizzen and pan. Single trigger. Dovetailed front sight with a groove for the rear sight. A metal ramrod with a little curve to it toward the end. Light and easily maneuvered, this is a handy companion.
I’m not master gunsmith by any means, but to my eye this is a mid grade build. There are some imperfections, like pin holes that are bit to large and a piece added at the end of the tang that looks like it was changed from rounded to square, probably as part of the original build. There is a bit of wax/grease on the interior of the lock that needs cleaned up. Almost like builder put it into storage for a time. A little cleaning and polishing of the lock interior should clean things up nicely. There was a very thin crack in the wood in area between the trigger guard and entry thimble for the ramrod that has been repaired. I photographed it from both sides, but you can barely find it in person and even less so in the photos. Some wear and dings through out on the exterior, but nothing too egregious. The wood has some rather nice figuring near the butt. I see no problems with the function or condition in terms of usability, but as always you should have it inspected by a qualified individual before use if you lack that expertise yourself.
