I have been pondering building a lighter weight smoothbore for quite a while, hopefully I will finish my gillispie mountain rifle this winter. I could not decide what barrel to get, looked at Track of the Wolf, had it narrowed down to a 38" tapered and flared 20 ga. or a 42" tapered and flared 16 ga.. Track did not list a 38" tapered and flared 16 ga. kinda wanted a 16 ga. 38". Just for the heck of it I called Tip Curtis, yup, he has them, and I ordered one. I actually like the way he does business, does not have a web site, does not take credit cards, had a nice chat with him. I am a bit old fashioned (54 years old) and found it a pleasure to do business the old fashioned way. This is not my first purchase from him, bought an American fowler kit a couple years ago from him.flinch

what are you putting the barrel in ??style ,wood, hardware??

don't leave use hanging

hawk 2, don't know yet what type of gun I will build. I was thinking a trade gun, but Tip Curtis kinda got my mind to wandering. I want to build a simple hunting gun, light weight, easy to carry around all day. My plan is to use it to shoot shot only, but who knows? That was my plan for the last fowler I built. (from a kit from Tip Curtis)ended up shooting round balls from it way more than shot. I am working on my 2nd gun from a blank, hopefully have it done this winter. One thing this smooth bore won't have is a cheek peice,or entry thimble, I seem to have a real hard time with those. So, I guess I will inlet the barrel and decide from there. by the way I have never inlet a oct. to round barrel, so that will be a challenge in itself. I inlet a straight 7/8" barrel last year and a swamped 36 cal. barrel this year, turned out ok, (just ok). Actually I really didn't need the barrel or blank of wood yet, I love buying gun parts, in my oppinion, you can allways get your money back if you decide to sell. On the other hand it doesn't hurt to be thinking ahead. flinch
