Just purchased a lock for my 1816/35 Harpers Ferry. It fits great and looks wonderful. No modifications to the inner wood or the plate.

That's great! Those 1816 models were before interchangable parts were the norm; parts were made "to a pattern" - not quite the same thing. That's a nice looking lock! I really like those cone-in-barrel conversions. Keeping part of the original pan as a lockplate filler was not only clever, it speaks to a time of practical thinking and repurposing.
