Belgian variant of the French Mle1842. Probably one of the many that the Union imported during the war. This one is original length but has a modern replacement nose cap. Nipple is broken like above, frozen will need to unscrewed. Rifling fair but is in better shape then above, more prominent three groove with frosting and some pitting. The lock will full cock no problem but cant get it to catch on halfcock. No ramrod. The breech plug seems to have been overtighted a bit so the barrel is slightly out of alignment to the left when looking down the sights.. Should be able to correct the position if you can unscrew the breech plug by a smidge. The rear sling loop pin at the trigger guard is missing. Stock is dinged up but solid. Askin $400. obo Have a shorter Infantry rifle also..

FYI this is not an 1842. The 1842 had a rear sight on the breech plug tang. I believe this is the 1853 model. I assume it says Manuf Imp de Liege on the lock. If so it is still a French arm. I realize Liege is Belgian but the Belgians did not have the property mark on the side of their stocks. It is just a contract piece for the French, but still a French model.
