Well, I went ahead and did it. In an older thread I talked about a member of the collector's club I belong to having an 1842 HF musket for sale.
He waved under my nose one too many times and now it's mine.

It's original smooth bore with lock date 1846 so, it may have actually seen action in the Mexican War (1846 - 1848). The condition is very good for being 175 years old. Stock is unit marked C.G.2.

I'll get more photos up after I finish carefully cleaning it. For now, here's the lock.
