1842 musket

I have a 1942 Springfield musket, cap rifle. I have .69 balls. I was wondering the amount of back powder charge that is historical correct to shoot this ball? Did they use baseball with a paper wade on top? Thanks

if it is a rifle 1842, use 70 grains of 2f and .685 Lyman minie ball. If it is smoothbore, use 110 1F with .662 round ball.
