I have decided to purchase the 1851 Navy Civilian from Cabelas. I already have an 1858 Rem and an 1860 Army. Does anyone have any experience with this gun? It has a silver plated backstrap and trigger guard. I'm getting it in 44 caliber.

Been looking at the same gun but not sure I'll get it. Thinkin I need one in .36 cal and Cabelas has some nice ones. Let me know how you like the Civilian if you get it.

I don't have a civilian model, but I have two brass framed 1851's one each in .44 and .36 calibers. They are well balanced pointable and a pleasure to shoot. IMO the civilian model should be as good a shooter and better suited to heavier loads.
