Anybody out there able to help me value an old Pietta 1851 Navy pistol? Its got someones name and birthday engraved on it, a broken pin retaining screw and no engraving on the cylinder. It is a .44, has a little play in the cylinder.

The engraving of someone's name and birthday takes away from its value. The broken screw takes an additional amount away from its value. But, you can replace the screw and solve that problem. The play in the cylinder may really hurt its value unless it is just a simple adjustment and then it is a non-issue. Any rust on the outside or in the bore and cylindar is a real serious consideration for setting a value. Wear of the finish is another serious consideration. Are the grips intact or do thay have chips, dents or cracks? Really for anyone to give you an approximate value on it, they would need to look at the gun. the next best way is to submit a series of good pictures with an accurate description of it. Just the few words you have posted are just not enough for anyone to give you any kind of an accurate evaluation. But, just based on what you have said about it, I would not risk an offer of more than $50 on it. It could possibly be worth more but I would have to examine it.

A modern replica with a broken screw and someone's name on it? Not a heck of a lot.
