I just picked up a 1851 navy made by euro arms brass frame and case hardened plunger. It seems to like 20 grns of 2f with shortning over the ball I use a .380 round ball because the .375 seem to slide right into the cylinder. What do other people shoot with their 36 cal 1851 7 1/2" barrel. Loads ect.
Thanks F.K.

Yours is I believe a typical load, although most folks probably use 3f powder. A few more grains may fit in the cylinders, but maybe not. I like to place a greased wad over the powder too. My Colt takes .375 Dia. ball, but this depends entirely on what fits best in the cylinders of each individual revolver. Sometimes I have used the same load by volume of Pyrodex with good results, but I prefer black powder.

Don't load that open top brass frame too heavy or you will shoot it loose in a few hundred rounds. You are at about all the powder I would care to put behind a RB. You may even want to back off 5 grains. If you don't push them too hard the brass guns will last a long time.

Thats what I usually run in my brassies. About 5 grains or so less than suggested. Doesn't seem to affect the point of aim- groups stay about the same.
