I have a Hawes 1851 Navy from back in '70s. It is overall in excellent condition. However, for the first time ever, I decided to disassemble it, just for the heck of it, I guess, and when putting it back together managed to strip the screw that goes through the front of the trigger guard. Any suggestions on how to remedy the problem? Could I just LocTite the screw in place and forget about it?

When you say you stripped the threads are you speaking of the screw, the hole or both?

If it is just the screw you can probably find a metric threaded screw at your local hardware store.

It won't have the right shaped head but if you have an electric drill and a small metal file the head of a round head screw can usually be reshaped to end up with something that will work.

If it is the screw then that's easy just chase the threads with an appropriate tap and replace,if it is the female in the frame than drill out to the next size, re-tap, turn the screw head diameter to fit the screw head seat and your back in business.MD
