G'day folks,

I've recently picked up four black powder weapons, two of which are muzzle-loaders. I'm particularly interested in seeing about shooting my P53, and am looking for advice as how to go about it. What checks are needed, what has been the experience of others with original P53s?

I'm pretty happy. I picked up this weapon along with a trade-pattern Brown Bess, a Nepalese Snider-Enfield and an 1879 Martini-Henry MkIII along with bayonets for $800 Australian

Thanks for your thoughts.

Cheers,
Matt

First get it checked out by a competent black powder gunsmith.
I would hope out Australian forum members would be able to refer you to one.

Well it does not appear that you are getting a lot of response so I will refer you the North-South Skirmish Asociation web page.
This excellent organization is comprised of persons interested in shooting American Civil War Arms. They shoot originals in target competition and should be able to give you good guidance after you determine your Enfield is safe to shoot.
