was home sick wtih a touch of death today so i decided to play around with my sewing machine. Somehow this started out as just a haversack...but then I went crazy..(blmae the cold medicine) and ended up with a cross between a warner style knapsack and a new-invented knapsack lol...I totally was not expecting this. But here it is...I had just enough material from the scrap box to put it together. each bag measures roughly 14x17 with scrapped together strap about 2 1/4 inches wide. In the near future I will add some ties to the sides and bottom of the bag. I mocked it up with cotton web straps and filled it with goodies. I even strapped on a wool blanket. And I ahve to say its actually quite comfortable with the nice wide strap. the outside is a solid piece of ochre red cotton duck with the inner part being a lighter wght material I found in my scrap pile. As I was busy keeping my head from exploding I did the whole bag with a machine, and as its just a rough draft so to speak I dont think ill do any hand finishing. but over all its not the prettiest but is certainly functional.....maybe even a bit too large?

Looks good to me! As long as there's not much heavy stuff in it, who cares how big it is?
Plenty of room for warm clothing.

If it's going to be used in winter, I'd say not at all. If you're adding any extra clothing from hats to gloves, to socks, you'll need the extra space.

Only thing I'd do is add a foot or so of leather "backing" to the strap where it rides on your shoulder. Over a long day fabric straps tend to roll up, turning them from comfortable to nasty. The leather will help keep it from rolling.
