Hey Squirrel Hunter here's a golden opportunity to test 3 different bullets. Now make sure ya try and get all three deer shot the same way.

Give us a report on how the different projectiles perform. It would be a good experiment even if it takes a couple of years.

Just a thought.

I am suprized the round ball didn't shoot higher, beinging lighter and all... :hmm:

MM Sometimes lighter projectiles print lower than heavy ones cause they get out of the barrel quicker. It's really more noticable in handguns because of the shorter barrels. Plus they tend to rise more the heavier slower bullet comes out after the barrel has raised a bit.

I'll never forget the first time I loaded a 180 grain bullet in my .44 as compared to a 240. The 180 printed 8" lower than the 240 at 25 yards had to make major adjustments!

For me it's a pretty special feeling to take deer with a patched round ball...if you haven't done so yet, you might give them a try this year.

Judging from the weights you listed I assume it's a .50cal rifle and the .50cal round ball performance is pretty much the same as a .30-30 170grn cartridge at typical 50-75yd shots in the woods... a heart/double lung shot and they don't stand a chance...enjoy!
