Has anybody experimented with loads for a 20 gauge with choke tubes ? Can you shoot round ball with accuracy from the same barrel ? Our blackpowder club is trying to come up with a version of a sporting clay range that will require both shot and roundball stations. :hmm:

For a ML sporting clay course, you can just keep the targets closer and stay with cylinder bored guns. Clay rabbits are a hoot, close (15-20 yard) crossing shots, perhaps some in-coming. For straight aways, you could have them come from behind the shooter or right next to the shooter so the shooter can get on them close. If the course is set up for cyl bored guns, then there's no choke issue for shooting a few round ball stations. Ballistics between modern smokless shotguns and ML'ers are similar enough that if you're going to use screw-in chokes, there's really no need to make a special course.IMO

If I understand correctly, you are not asking about how to set up the range but just about shooting ball through choke tubes.
If a patched ball will go down the bore it will come back out, wheather or not it will shoot accuratly is another matter.
I've owned several 12ga doubles choked imp & mod (fixed chokes) that shot very well with a .648" ball (16ga) loaded inside a plastic shot cup (only use I ever had for shot cups). That was just because I had the Lyman mold left after I sold a 16ga tradegun.
A .575" ball also works inside a 20ga shotcup. I really think just a bit of choke may actually help accuracy but Can't swear to that, you just have to give all options a fair trial, then you can tell us how it works.
