I've got a new (to me) 24 gauge trade gun I just picked up. Anyone got some useful shot recipes? thinking about trying it out during the Spring turkey season here in Kansas.

I have a .56 calibre Thompson Center smoothbore. Close to your little 24 gauge. My favorite load out of that gun is 60 grains of ffg, and same volume of 6 shot. Great little load for rabbits & squirrels. Goto a 60 grain volume of 8 shot and nice for 20 to 25 yard dove hunting

60 grains of ffg
heavy nitro card
60 grain volume of 6 shot/8 shot
over shot card

Every gun is different, but on mine I started out with 80 gr. ff, and I think 1-1/4 oz. shot using the SkyChief load configuration and am very happy with the results.

70 grains of 3Fg
beeswax and olive oil lubed 1/2" fiber wad
Powder measure set at 70 grains, use for #6 lead shot (gives you 1 ounce)
Highly oiled 1/2" thick fiber wad over the shot.

You can do this also with 60 grains and use the measure for the shot and be launching 7/8ths of an ounce of shot

I use a light 20 gauge load in my 28 gauge. So it should work for your 24. 7/8 ounce of shot over 55 grain FF. I put the shot in a paper cartridge made from three thickness of news paper rolled over a dowel rod and tied shut with kite string. I use two leather wads between the powder and shot cartridge.

25 yards. I also did thirty and thirty-five, sorry no picture, and while still consistent lethal at thirty-five I will limit myself to thirty.

I loaded my 24 gauge with 62 gr. ff , 4 5/8 dia cards punched out of a Cheese-It box, 70 gr pour of # 6 shot, and 1 more 5/8 dia card from the Cheese-It box. i got this nice Tom this spring at 18 yards with that load. Best of luck in your future hunt.
