Hi! I bought this lead many years ago; I can't remember where it came from. I have used some of it in my muzzleloaders and there was no issues.

Is there an easy way to tell?

OK, my wife and I performed a scientific drop test. Conclusion: We could not come to a consensus on the level of thudness that would constitute soft pure lead. However, dropping the lead produced a considerable dent. The dent exposed very shiny lead which leaves me to believe a sort of coating or film has formed. When pressing my fingernail into the exposed shiny area, it did indeed leave a dent.

I leave it to you to draw your own conclusions. But it did pass the fingernail test.

Lead forms a lead oxide coating on it when it is exposed to air. That's the reason the surface looks different when compared with the newly exposed lead.

I’m not sure where we are in the conversation, but if no one has dibs yet I’ll take it. I’ll send you a PM.
