Anyone shoot roundball or shot?

In my GM .54cal x 15/16" x 33" Flint smoothbore barrel:

ROUNDBALL DEER LOAD
70/80/90grns Goex 3F all work fine
.018" lubed pillow ticking patch
Hornady .520 (five twenties)

I could use Oxyoke wonderwads as they caused an occasional flyer for some strange reason, so I had to use a thick pillow ticking patch for it to survive...but the thick patch didn't work well with .530s...tried some .520s and they were extremely accurate.

SHOT LOADS
70grns Goex 3F
Two .58cal Oxyoke wonderwads
1+1/8oz #6 hard shot
Circle Fly overshot card

Excellent pattern at the 25yds I tested, and had strong penetration right through thick strong metal tuna cans

I've only fired the standard 55 grains of FFg, and 3/4 oz of shot. Two cards over the powder on one over the shot. Worked pretty good, but I'll have to change the sights. :v

John, I wish I could try some .530 rbs in that 28ga. smoothy before I ship it to you, but I just shot my last one at our below zero shoot Sunday. I don't have any 28 wads or cards either.
Won't have a change to mold some more .530s til next weekend. That's part of the fun of a new gun, is trying to see what works best in it

In my long barreled 28 bore (48") I used 55gr of 3ff and a .530 RB patched .018
For shot I used 70gr 3fff , hard card, fiber wad, over shot card , 1oz shot and another over shot card.

Hey Thornapple, I know what you mean with the cold weather. AS I told you, I've been shooting at snowshoe biathlons and seldom is it 0 degrees or above! Can't wait to be in the Smoothbore Catergory.

Hi John, all I can say is shooting a smoothbore is a humbling experience! (But fun anyway). Good luck with the new shooting iron, bring it to the next shoot!

.530 ball .015 pillow ticking patch over 80 grains 2ffg through a 42" barrel= piont of aim @ 50 yards also= dead 150# wild sow @ 40 yards

55grains of 2ffg powder semi dried leaves for wadding topped with #6 lead shot same volume measure as the powder topped with a cardboard overshot card peppers consistantly rabbit and squirrel head sized targets @ 30-40 yards
