I have been looking for the post where one of out fellow shooters on this forum told about using 2Fg powder in their revolver. I was not able to find that post. But I want to express my gratitude for sharing that bit of information.

I went out and shot my Pietta Remington NMA revolver today, using 35 grains of 2Fg behind a .451 ball, and shot the best groups, at twenty five yards, that this revolver has ever shot. Just over an inch from a rest. The fouling was the same as with 3Fg and the recoil was much milder than when using 28 grains of 3Fg, which was my previous load.

Once again thank you for sharing your experiences.

I tried it this weekend in a Dragoon and an Army and was very pleased with the results.

What's the difference in power ratio between the two? I know it takes more 2f to equal 3f pressure/velocity- but how much?

That may have been me. I have recommended it several times, especially for brassers. According to Elmer Keith (peace be unto him) the old-timers considered 3F a pocket pistol powder, and .36 an larger were charged w/ 2f.

I have a Pietta target model I shot for years w/ 3F and .451" balls and got adequate accuracy (2-3"). I tried 2F (because that was what I had) and .454 balls, and it literally chewed the X ring out of a 25 yard target. Out of over a dozen C&B's, both .36 and .44, only 2 or 3 won't shoot better with 2F than 3F, and those shoot about as well with either.

A full charge of 2F seems to be about the same as a 3/4 charge of 3F and cornmeal filler. I just don't have the patience to doink with the fillers.

And for what it's worth, my ROA LOVES 2f. It has been a couple of months, but I think I was able to get 45gr in the chamber, and still had room for a greased felt wad and ball, and it cut one (not very) ragged hole at 20 yards. I need to see what it does at 50.

Yeah AlanA, I recognize the avatar. Thanks buddy. Shooting with a cylinder full of 2Fg sure is a lot easier then dealing with fillers and such. I am going to group test all of my cylinders to see if the results hold up in each. Thanks again.
