32 cal crockett rifle

Recently put together a Crockett kit gun. Went to the range for the 1st time with it last week. It was fun to shoot but my groups weren't very good. I'm using .310 round ball and a .010 lubed patch. Started out with 20 gr. FFF and beefed er up to 30. No difference in shot groups. I know some of it was me, not quite there with finding my aim point with the iron sights. I only had time for about 12 shots. My last 2 shots did group up nicely, printed on target at about 5 o'clock low. Appreciate any feed back.

Try going the other direction.
15 grains will get 'er done out of that little pipe

Might take a bit for the barrel to settle down, it being new and all.

When I build I don't break out the file to touch the sights until she has about 100 rounds through her.

Do play around with your load, patch thickness etc, but until you have run 100 balls or so down the pipe, don't sweat it...

My .32 likes .311 better.

I'm shooting 10 grains of Goex 3f or Pyrodex P in mine (the rifle cant tell the difference). It's really fond of .311 balls with pillow ticking patching and TOW mink tallow for lube.

Look for your patches after they are fired. They will tell you allot. New guns often have a sharp crown or rifling that cuts the patches and destroys accuracy.

I owned a nice little Crockett for quite a few years. I loaded a .311" ball and a .015" patch with 30 grains of 3F. Later I found it did just as well with 20 grains. Mine easily shot a 5 shot group of 1-1/16" at 36 yards counting the flyer. It was good for sub 1" at 50 yards.

I'm hardly an experienced shooter but when I was trying to get my .32 dialed in I used .310 RB with a .015 patch and 20g's. Early on it was all over the chart, which was frustrating and made it tempting to start tweaking stuff, patches, load, how many shots before wiping the bore, etc. I decided to bench rest everything, swipe between shots, no change in load or patch, and shoot away. Didn't take long to turn the corner and get some consistency, last week put four balls through the same hole, yours will work itself out too..great learning experience..
