32-Maxi.jpg

I have been shooting round balls in this little .32 carbine. 25.5" barrel. [buggy rifle]

Different loads and patches, and different brand caps..........after today's session of 50 rounds fired.............bench and offhand. :yakyak:

I remembered the maxi balls that Bruce at Underhammers..... sent me. They are long and ugly, but they would sure make a Coyotes day go bad, real quick like.

I just tried one load....40FFF, over a lubed felt wad.

No cleaning between shot, and it appears that the fifth shot wandered. Cleaned and reloaded....and six is next to one.....clean barrel shot.

Anybody else tried these little pills. They seem to want to shoot.......and with a little more testing, they may be deadly. :shocked2:

I am going to vary the powder charge and also try a cardstock wad under the maxi. :hmm:

Yah know, I'm really liking these maxi-balls. My guns seem to like a whole lot of them before I need to clean. I wasn't even using a wad. I'll test that out next time.

He should be.

and..........the twist on my .32 is 1 in 48, a seven groove Douglas barrel.

Wish I had a Maxi Mold for it.

I've seen the .36 cal. mold show up every so often on ebay. Wonder if you can run them in a sizer. Also you might ask Bruce if he's got one for sale. He sold me the .45 maxi-ball mold earlier this year.

They sure are long looking!

Hey BS -

:hmm:
Curious to compare just how long they are. My TC 32 Maxi mold throws em .590" long and a few grains lighter at 103. The old CVA Squrrel I have really loves these according to the gent I bought it from and they were all he ever shot in it for tree rats. I haven't tried them in my 32 Cherokee.

These are 610 long[?] maybe.

Glad for you and your maxi mold

I just lubed up some 36 maxis and pounded them thru a short piece of my .32 barrel that was coned. They sure are 'rough and tough looking', but a couple of smacks with my short started and the lubed balls poped thru.

Testing will be soon.

Nice to see I'm not all that crazy when I suggested running them through a sizer. Post a picture of them an your target (good or bad) when your done!

T/C made the original Mini molds for their Seneca and Cherokee rifles...they're since discontinued but as shown above some folks are making them for sale. The molds show up from time to time on auctions like Auctionarms.com & Gunbroker.com at fair prices. The small rifles from T/C were rifled 1-30" twist and handled the little Mini slugs well. That fast twist was very accurate with light loads in the small bores of .32 & .36.

Thanks for the length update. Bet even these will be short compared to those 36 now 32's. :winking: Will be looking for the test results.

I picked up the TC molds as I found them for sale, both RB and Maxi from 32-54 and most have been NIB when I got them. Still have 2 or 3 of most of them, but I don't see them very often anymore. They carry a lot of weight for bartering at my local groups annual Rondy both with the dealers and visitor's, so are great to have on your trade blankets. One full set is my personal set though as I have 2 or more ML's in each caliber.

A picture of the sized MAXI.

Doesn't shoot real well with the loads used. First I tried 40FFF that worked well with the 32 maxi, the I tried 56FFF. Too much powder, only makes the barrel fowl........

Target at this link:

I also shot some round balls.

I cut one band off the base, it is now 79 grains. I will make a couple and use 30-35 FFF and see how they shoot.

Thanks to a very good buy on Auction Arms I am "maxed" out for the rest of my life I got over 600 cast ones and 4 boxes of T/C plus another 700 .310 balls for $45. When I add in the 400balls and 120 maxiballs I already had I guess I am good ammo wise for my .32.

The T/C maxiballs are 103g and the cast ones are 105g.
