Hi Folks,

I have 4 BPR in 36 and I think 1851s except the 5 shot. 2 are relatively new (2008) Pietta and never fired. One is a CVA from the early 80's. One I have no idea. See pics. No markings on the left.

Both of the old brass frames exhibit timing issues. The CVA 5 shot will over rotate if you **** the hammer with an speed. The unknown guy has issues with the bolt. It stays engaged most of the time. It does try to recede a tad on cocking. I have disassembled both and cleaned up to the last 3 screws. Both have been ultrasonically cleaned less the grips. The unknown guy's nipples are frozen.

Question; Are either one of them worth a deep dive are they best wall hangers? I do relize the brass frames are not nearly as strong, but it would be nice to shoot them for nostalgic fun.

See my intro post. I have just revived this game and I pulled the brass ones out of storage along with a 50 ML carbine. I bought the new ones in 2008 when the ammo wave #1 was happening. Never did get around to shooting, but this is about to change!

Kind Regards,
Rhett

It might not take too much to make them function correctly, maybe shorten the hand on the pocket pistol and a new spring for the bolt on the other...?

That's quite the drag mark on the cylinder!

Yes, that is a mark. My guess it has been broke for a while. I do know it came from a gun-show a bazillion years ago. I have never shot it and it was pretty messed up when I received.

The pocket was mine from day one. I received it new for Christmas at an age that would get DSS in a fuss today. I did shoot it back then and a lot with 15 of 3f (Pyro and BP). I used a lee 1cc dipper as my measure, found it in the box. 15 may be too hot for a brass frame, but at the time what did I know?

Its funny for that gun is pretty clean from what I know was cleaned with no more than WD40 and whatever DD was in the kitchen. I was pretty unsupervised and had very little guidance for barely being a teen. About the hand, since I know it worked perfectly 40 some years ago, do you think it too could be a spring(s)? I think your comment makes me want to do a complete disassembly on it now.

would not have to disassemble much to see whether one leaf of the spring might be broken, and replacements are inexpensive

the entire revolver is not difficult to disassemble and reassemble either

OK, I think I will take another run at both. I am not unmentionable USPSA shooting this weekend, so I have a little time. My #1 priority is to cast some bullets, but this will be #2.

Well I did shoot the unmentionable match today. Long hot tired. But after a shower I could not let this go. I started with the unknown with the cylinder issue.

My spidey senses tell me it is possible the bolt and trigger are warn out? I dont thing the trigger should have a needle on the end and one of the fingers of the bolt mangled. Now, if someone can point me in the direciton of what this firearm may be and/or recommend where to get parts for this unknown 36. I see a lot of reference to track the wolf. See pictures.

BTW in one of my parts bin I found the remains of a Navy 44 revolver. Grip, Cylinder and barrel assembly. Its Navy Arms Ridgefield NJ 44 Cal. The trigger and hammer were in the bag. I compared it to the .36s trigger and the 44 parts. The 36 is just slightly reduced in size, but pretty much the same.

Any help would be appreciated about the ID and where to get parts. Also, if you tell me; while you are getting X you should get Y I will take in account.

I spent last night and this morning dinking with both the unknown and the CVA pocket. I did get the pocket working 90% of the time. Only a few times it over indexed. It appears it too needs a new bolt/hand. A bit of lube and light polishing helped a lot. Would I shoot it now, you bet. The unknown I am pretty sure at this point it's a 1979 ASM. I am also thinking it was a kit gun. The fitting of parts is pretty poor. I could see a company get one or even two wrong, but this one has a lot of fit issues.

So, now reality sets in. I have two brand new Pietta's in 36 to play with. I don't think I will spend any more capital on either one of these brassers. They are brass framed, frankly poor quality (its hard to admit ). I have heavily lubed them up with synthetic grease, coating the cylynder and bores with Ballistol and generally prepped for storage.

Now to cast some bullets and if the humidly ever drops below 90% I would get the new Pietta's out.

After all, if I stop now and save the $ that I would spend buying parts and stuff I can get a 1858 New Army. Will look at Uberti.

Done for Now.
