I am looking for a do-it-yourself Black Powder pistol kit in .45 caliber. I have looked all over the internet and can only find .50. I have a .45 blackpowder rifle and would prefer not to mess around with a different size pistol ball. Any suggestions where I might find such a beast? P.S. I really like the Kentucky style and the Philidelphia derringer but the Kentucky kit seems to only come in .50 and I can't find a kit for the derringer. Flintlock or Percussion, either is ok. I just want to build one myself.

Welcome Crossfire...try Thunder Ridge Muzzleloading. They have a .45 kit called the Pioneer made by Traditions for $150. If your billfold is deeper, Track of the Wolf for around 300 to 400. good luck

Pecatonica offers a nice looking Kentucky style pistol kit in flintlock for 245.85 (in my catalog) plus the wood.
The precussion lock is $23 less than the flintlock but requires a drum for the nipple which adds $4.50. This makes the precussion pistol price $227.35 plus the wood.
Their wood prices for pistols are $28.50 for Straight Maple, $41.50 for Premium Curly Maple. $33.00 for Walnut or Cherry.
You would choose either a 13/16 or 7/8 octagon for the barrel.
Either barrel can be had in .45 caliber.

The stock is pre-inlet for the barrel and lock, but this is not one of the 98% done kits offered by the big factories.
If you go this way, you might want to have them cut the sight dovetails ($5 each). :)
