Does anyone have or know what the twist is in the TC 45 cal. Hawkins? I don't beleive TC makes the 45 cal any more in the Hawkins.

28" Standard barrel is 1:48" twist
32" Round ball barrel is 1:66" twist

Right, they don't make either any more

Thank you.
I am looking to get something to shoot PRB. I would think 1-48 would shoot PRB. I have a Kentucky 45 cal. But it has a long barrel. Would like to find a 28" in a 45 cal. Hunting whitetail with the Kentucky nice but shorter barrel would be nice in heavy brush. Beside TC hawkins would a nice addion to my collection of firearms.

My TC 1:48" drive tacks with roundballs, and TC's .45cal/255grn maxi-hunters.

FWIW, my hunting loads for Eastern deer at normal woods distances are:

90grns Goex FFFg (3F)
Oxyoke lubed wad
.018" TC lubed pillow ticking
Hornady .440 ball

100grns FFg (2F)
Oxyoke lubed wad
255grn lubed MaxiHunter

Roundball
Thanks for the info. In my CVA Kentucky I shoot 65gr FFF goex with a hornady RB. Pillow ticking of course. That seems to shoot very well. Been thinking about a 50 cal. but the 45 cal. is good enough for deer. I'm looking at TC hawkins in 45 cal. The only thing is that most rifles that have that cheek piece don't fit me right. But thanks again.

I think you will find what you are looking for on this web sight. http://restorationfirearms.com/OnlineCatalog.html
Went shooting with a friend last Tuesday that had found a new T/C Hawken in .45. He was using 50 grains by volume of Triple Seven and shooting 1-2 inch groups off hand at 25 yds. This was his first time shooting a muzzleloader. To add insult to injury he only paid $200 for the rifle. He also got a Ruger Old Army for the same price. What luck.

You might also look at a T/C Seneca. They were also made in .45 caliber, and have a 1 in 48" twist. They are good roundball shooters. Look pretty much like a Hawken, but are lighter. 13/16" across the flats, vs. 15/16" across on a Hawken. They are harder to find than a Hawken, and are a sought after muzzleloader.
