Started a new job a month ago, so it's been hard finishing up some projects.I picked up a stock and furniture for a little bit of nothing, got a GM barrel, Davis trigger, and a round face lock. The gun had been stripped - Ditchburn lock, .50 cal barrel( must of been thin walled )the 13/16 .45 was snug -had to take a little wood out of the channel.I got lucky with the new lock, not much fiddling to make it fit. Put some wire inlay in and a silver heart thumb plate. I cheated and used tru-oil then a little beeswax and finally got her done. Thought you all might want to take a peek,it's my 5th gun, 3 rifles, 2nd pistol.I would welcome some critcism, it would maybe help on the next build.

The only critcism I have is that little block of wood is not going to give to good a spark! :rotf: :rotf: Sorry couldn't resist.
I really like it!!

The only thing I see is it belongs to you and not me. I am always impressed with the craftsmanship I see on this forum.

Very nice pistol! :hatsoff:

Since you say this, I'll offer one, as long as you realize that this is far better work than I could do, and I don't intend to knock a really nice piece. The inlay work in front of the trigger guard doesn't really "flow." It's a bit choppy, rather than graceful. It has a nice folk-art quality to it, but it's perhaps the a small weakness to a fine piece.

Please take this in the spirit in which it's intended! As I said, I couldn't do anything near as good...

No offense taken. I intended the wire to take the place of the carving on the stock , but I guess there is really no replacing good carving. The design looked good when I started but when finished it didn't really do the drawing justice. I did learn that the crease in the wood for the silver ribbon needs to be almost as deep as the ribbon to work properly, but I figgered it out near the end of the job. Notice the wire around the lock and side plate have a few bobbles, I like wire inlays, but there is a knack for it that one has to aquire. Now I need to find some more parts and tackle another project :haha: Thanks for you observations, I appreciate your opinions.

I'd say nicely done I like it. Now I dlike to know how it shoots when you get a chance let us know !
