If I may ask, what do 45cal and 50cal roundballs mic out at?
Thanks, xbowman

Depends on the ball. Some .45's are .440 and some are .445. Some .50's are .490 and some are .495. And some people use a .447 or .450 in a .45, and a .500 etc in a .50. Lots of answers to that one. But most are .440 or .445 and .490 or .495 from the factory.

It is a confusing issue for me, since my Speer .490 roundballs mic out at .465. Not sure what 45cal really mic out at.

That's wierd!
I just miked some .495 Speer and some .490 Hornadys and they miked within .002 of being what the box said they were.
My .440 Hornady balls miked at .439 plus/minus .001 average (some were up to .003 out of round but that is because they have a few little flats on them.).

time for new round balls or a new caliper/mic. .490 balls should mic out at .490

Was this a freshly opened box?

If it was, they could have been mis-labeled at the factory, could happen, people are human...

If it wasn't, perhaps some different size roundballs were put into the wrong box by mistake...

How hard are you squeezing your mic and did you "zero" your mic to begin with???

Thanks all of you. I just checked the 50cal balls with another mic and they are .490. I noticed my calibers had some fine metal pieces in the very fine teeth. Cleaned it up and now they work perfectly. Mic .490. I just never gave that caliper a second thought about dirt.
Thanks, xbowman
