I would like to take a old 50 cal I have and get the barrel bored out to a smoothbore. So does anyone know who can do this for me. I would also like some recomendations on what size of smoothbore can i get out of a 50cal.

Had Bobby Hoyt re-bore a one inch barrel from a 50 to a 58 (rifled, not smooth bore) last fall. Options with one inch barrel were 58 rifled or 62 smooth bore. Call and find out what he can do for you. His number is (717) 642-6696. He can be difficult to get hold of but does good work.

I might like to buy a smooth barrel for my T/C .50 Hawkin. Is such available?

My dad has a CVA .50 cal percussion rifle with 24 inch barrel. It was never accurate, so he desided to make it a smooth bore. He used a 33/64 " (.515) reamer. He honed it after, and we tried it.

Used 90 grains of FFg with:

1 1/2 oz of #6 shot.
1 1/2 oz of #BB (.17")
20 pellets of #3 (.25") buckshot.

Excellent pattern at 30 yards! Very happy!!!!

Did not pattern well with 00 (.33") buckshot.
00 buck don't stack evenly. .33+.33=.66" the bore is .515".
