I have a Dixie gunworks Tennessee long gun that has the grease hole in the stock and want to intstall a patch box. I do have one in brass but want to keep the gun looking right for the area these guns where used. What type's where used?

I have the same gun, and thought about a patch box. The Bean style/banana style ARE really the only period correct ones for that gun, but I personally dont like them. I could go with one I DO like, but then its getting away from the whole southern rifle thing. And while I dont see myself using the tallow hole ever, I probably wouldn't really use the patch box much either. So I decided to just leave it as is.

My next gun will be fancier, with a nice box.

I talked myself into the Bean rather than the banana for the build unstarted on my bench. Once browned I think it will look fine.
I made a paper cutout from the photos and layed it on the stock. That let me walk around the gun and view it from all angles. When I did the same with the banana cut out it didn't look right. It looked too long.
