Further to my post on 'Traditions Kentucky-Options'.
Here is a drawing, from memory, of a percussion under-hammer that I built about 1975.
The steel was a piece of very tough shafting that was about 1.5 ins in diameter to start with.

The hammer was connected to the coil main-spring via a piece of Bowden cable from a bicycle gear change. As I remember I had to take a few strands out to increase flexibility to go around the wheel.

It looks like an interesting design. My only concern, not to be a pain, would be that the cable could stretch over a period of time. Another would be the potential of water getting in the wheel mechanism and freezing up .

I could be wrong.

I used it for about five years and never had to worry about cable stretch. Possibly because it was well used and only short. The wheel was no problem as the grip panels were well fitted and no moisture ever got in, of course I was lucky enough to never drop it in a stream or get it really wet.

nice..
something just a little bit different
thank you for showing us your design

was there any special inspiration for the design?

thank you
