would like your opinions on pedersoli frontier lyman great plains t/c renegade best shooting hunting rifle

I've hunted with a percussion GPR for years and it's never given me a bit of trouble and I'm happy enough with it's performance and accuracy that when a used GPR flintlock was offered the other day I snapped it up.

I don't know about all of them but both of mine have very nicely figured stocks.

Much as I like my Frontier (50 cal), I'd go for the Lyman too. I prefer hooked breeches so I can remove the barrel for cleaning, and Lyman has it all over Perdersoli or TC these days for parts and service, in the unlikely event of a problem.

Okay, everybody; what's wrong with the GPR? Don't hold back; spell it out. :rotf:

Well, aint nobody makes a small caliber drop-in shorty barrel with a peep set far back. That's plumb wrong.

Got one in Left side cap,,might have to get a left side flint, lock and barrel,,,now that would be the cats whiskers.
Got mine some time ago,,goes on every woods walk now!!!!!just like the looks and feel. Some say it's heavy,,well how you going to haul out that 500 lb saber toothed, meat eating, bone crushing, deer if you cant carry 9 lbs of rifle....

my lefty GPR just arrived today (took less than a week)spent three hours cleaning, tweaking, puttin' on the primitive sight and touchin' up the touch hole. I plan on sightin' her in in the morning. My vote is for the GPR.

Well, I'm in the process of purchasing a Frontier from the classifieds here. I've heard nothing but good about the GPR, but the Pedersoli appealed to me because of the full length stock. This is going to be my first flinter, hoping that I made a good choice.

I've has my .54 GPR percussion for over 35 years with no problems. Loved it so much, when I retired my wife bought me a .54 GPR flint kit. The action si very fast and reliable. It is a real tack driver out to 100 yards. As you can see, it's the number 1 pick. If you want a new rifle, Lyman is it. I don't see the Pedersoli Fromtier/Blue Ridge in .54 any more and T/C stopped making .54s some time back. You won't regret the Lyman GPR

Just to beat a dead elk, I vote for the Lyman GPR.

I like them so much I have 3 different models. Great fun to customize, great fun to shoot, very reliable, and most importantly, I wouldn't shed too many tears if I scratched one!

These are a working mans rifle. They are not museum pieces, but can be polished up very nicely or left alone. I shoot mine at the local matches and i'm the only one to blame when the ball wanders off target!

Life is short. Get the one that makes YOU happy!

I own a couple of Frontiers (a cap carbine and a full-length flint, both 50's) in addition to a several GPRs. As I said before, the only thing that really tips me toward the GPR is the hooked breech, making it easier to remove the barrel for a thorough cleaning. When it comes to fit, function, accuracy and reliability, the Frontier gives up nothing to the GPR.

I sold my TC Renegade and assembled this .54 GPR, and I haven't looked back since.

They multiply when you're not looking!?!? :rotf:

Like I said earlier, I have three of them, all in flint. A .50, a .54, and one that I used to mount my GM .54 Smoothbore barrel on to make my smoothrifle. All three are great and work for just about any hunting I can do around here, except the archery seasons, but I'm flinging sharp sticks then, so its ok.
