I have a T.C. Renegade .56 smoothbore barrel arriving soon that I bought on Ebay. When it does arrive I want to be ready with all the fixins to shoot it. I have a couple of questions about how to load it: Firstly, what size wads and where is the best place to buy them? Also what is a good charge for it? Secondly, what size ball and patch works best on the average? Thanks for any help you can give me,

do a search on this forum for .56 smoothie or renegade smoothbore, i just bought one and asked a lot of the same questions. a .550 ball and a .010 patch shoots real well.

I used Oxyoke (TC, CVA, Traditions, Remington) .58cal prelubed 'wonderwads';

Also what is a good charge for it?
70grns Goex 3F (or 80grns Pyrodex-RS) worked well for me

I used Warren .550 balls and .015" Oxyoke prelube patches...required a sharp rap on the short starter but it was very accurate.

hey roundball!, off topic but my new chunk gun uses .550 with a .015 patch too. thanks for the good smoothie renegade info.

In my 56 I use 75 grs. 3f and 535 rb. and 18th patch. I got this load from this form. You can shoot more times without running a cleaning patch so often. This load is great out to 75 yds. then it starts to open up some. Loads easier than my 550 rb. loads with a 15th patch. :hmm:

I'd say me too, as I just got one at an auction, but with Wally and that Texican, I'm about 5th or 6th. :grin: It has a mold with it, I just don't know which one. As for wads, I'll be pickin' up a 9/16th hole punch. :winking: With a little luck I can get in on this month's shoot. :hmm:

Billy: If you run that load over a chronograph, you will find that your groups open up because the ball is coming down through the trans-sonic zone of the sound barrier, after 70 yds or so. Try a lighter load that does not go above 1100 Fps at the muzzle, and see if your groups don't stay smaller at the longer ranges. Yes, your POI will be lower, but that is a matter of adjusting sights, or aiming higher. The RB carries enough weight to thump a deer at much longer ranges than 75 yds.
