I use a hand cast .530 ball, pillowtick patch(with Stumpy's semi-dry lube tecnique) cut at the muzzle. 120 gr. 2F KIK. Very accurate for me out of my Green Mtn. 1-70" twist barrel.

What is your fav. 58cal rb hunting loads (deer). Shifty

My deer hunting here in the east is in typical, thick hard-woods, average shot is 30-50yds, so I just use a mid-renge powder charge in a GM 1" x 33" x 1:70" Flint barrel...

100grns Goex 2F (FFg)
Oxyoke wonderwad
.018" TC precut/prelubed pillow ticking
Hornady .570

I use the same 58 cal load in my Hawken full stock flinter for muleys, elk, antelope, and bear...36 inch GRRW barre with 1 in 72 twist...540 round ball with 120 grains of FFg GOEX...Targets and woods walks under 50 yard, 60 grain load, 80 yard and out 90 grains...Medium well washed and dry shrunk tight weave pillow tick with #13 or home brew lube...Gun is sighted in at 85 yards with the 90 grain load to strike at the top of the front sight... :winking: ...The Lizard...

The balls Idaho PRB and Thelizzard posted above seem a bit too undersized for a 58 cal?

I've always shot .570 Hornadays out of my 58

My load is the same as everybody else's. Works awesome on whitetails.

110grns Goex 3F
.018" TC prelubed pillow ticking
Hornady .570 Ball

Super accurate and deadly.

What stock do you have your barrel on?

Not NEAR as bad as some lead on.

When you touch it off, you will know there is some power going down range. But its not that bad at all.

I am in the process of putting together a Pecatonica River half-stock in walnut with Hawken Shoppe iron trim. The project is coming along nicely. Before that I had it in a TC Renegade stock.
